Self Care Sunday!

Taking the Time to Care for Yourself is VITAL!

Often, we tend to care for everyone else before caring for ourselves. This can negatively affect the body, both mentally and physically. That's why it is important to practice self-care!

Did you know that there are actually 6 styles of self-care?

1.) Physical

Of course, many people take care of themselves physically. This can be done through fitness and diet! Some common techniques include:

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Healthy Eating
  • Running/Walking

2.) Emotional

We also want to remain present with ourselves. Get in touch with our emotions. Our thoughts and behaviors are connected, so it is important to always provide positive affirmations to yourself. Common emotional self-care techniques include:

  • Writing/Journal
  • Meditation
  • Setting Boundaries, either with yourself or with others

3.) Spiritual

Now that you have nourished the body and mind, it is time to take feed the soul. You might be thinking that this includes religious practices, and for some people, it does include religious practices, however, spiritual and emotional self-care techniques are very similar.  Feeding the soul looks different to everyone. Combining self-care techniques are common.

4) Intellectual

Intellectual self-care allows one to expand their knowledge and get creative. Try learning a new skill or reading a book. Maybe even write a book!  Challenging one's mind often leads to the greatest results. Techniques of intellectual self-care often include:

  • Education
  • Reading a Book
  • Visiting a Museum

5.) Sensory

Sensory self-care is a type of self-care that is not talked about much, if at all. This type of self-care ultimately focuses on mindfulness and getting in touch with your senses. This can be done in a variety of ways, including:

  • Listening to Music
  • Mindfulness Activities
  • Taking a Warm Bath

6.) Interpersonal

Last, but certainly not least, we have interpersonal self-care. This includes nourishing the relationships that you have with other people; friends, family, or acquaintances. Techniques for interpersonal self-care include:

  • Calling a Loved One
  • Speaking with a Friend
  • Joining a Class, such as painting or SoulCycle

Now that we have covered each component, I would like to create a moment of transparency to disclose my self-care techniques!

As a business owner, my schedule can get very busy, very fast. To wind down, I often take time for myself; taking long drives, watching movies with friends, or taking a walk on the beach! I essentially practice multiple self-care styles, depending on the circumstance.

We recognize that everyone's self-care techniques vary. Share your techniques!

After a long day, I love to light candles and listen to soft music.

Some of my favorite self-care practices are going for jogs, lighting my favorite candles, doing my daily meditations. :)
